Performers in Education (PIE)
Project Organisation:
Sharyn Hill School of Speech & Drama
Location:
Albury, NSW
Facilitators and Artists:
Facilitator: Sharyn Hill, Nadia Dosenko and Rachel McNamara

About this Project?

Following intensive rehearsing earlier this year, seven young people, aged between 16-19 years, have delivered two drama performances to audiences from Xavier High School Albury NSW. The Performers in Education (PIE) mobile drama workshops were followed by interactive question & answer sessions to discuss the actor’s drama process and knowledge of theatre. “The educational aspect with the audience response was more involved and engaging than last time we were at Xavier. I felt that I could communicate better with them and that the group responded better to the development questions.” Tom 17.

A rehearsal will be filmed in time for the online ArtStart festival.

The performers are students of Sharyn Hill School of Speech & Drama and their focus is education. Drama school director Sharyn Hill said the development of the program was in response to the need for more practical and educational resources for performing arts students in the region. “Our vision is to provide these students with professional, educational drama workshops with a focus on the NSW Syllabus- the sort of resource that usually only metropolitan schools gain access to,” Ms Hill said.

“We’re also providing a mutually beneficial learning experience; where the school students learn through demonstration and discussions, the actors will develop their performance skills and their ability to communicate their knowledge.”

The workshop participant’s will include 6-7 band members ages 17-25 yrs. Some younger members of Music Ability’s programs will also be invited to attend the songwriting workshops. They will work with their band leader and visiting songwriter from Castlemaine, Carl Pannuzzo.
