About this Project?
West Albury Community Centre is a non-profit organisation delivering services such as Playgroup, Youth Groups, Health Clinics, Self Esteem and Literacy Classes and Self Defence ( to name a few).

A youth forum met in early 2007, identified some key needs for young people in the local area. The young people identified the lack of entertainment, transport and recreational activities. Hip Hop dance workshops were high on the agenda and an introductory program was initially funded by Albury City Council.
The current program has been running for ten weeks with 16year old instructor Benji Davidson. Benji is self taught and has performed in traditional Indigenous dances in the local Albury area.

Outcomes envisaged are:
provision of quality recreational activities
enhancement of self esteem and self worth
provision of a contact point for young people to meet and interact
providing opportunities to have fun

Kandeer School

About this Project?
Kandeer School is a School for Specific Purposes in Albury and caters for students with emotional and/or behavioural disorders.The school has an enrolment of 14 students ranging from years 5-10. The school's mission is "To make a positive difference in the lives of our students by empowering them to make appropriate choices in their lives"

The students participated in two week workshops of circus skills with Instructors from the locally based Flying Fruit Fly Circus. These workshops expanded on basic gymnastic skills that the students had already acquired and helped increase their belief in their own abilities.

Mural-The Place Youth Centre

About this Project?
This project involved the development of a large mural for the Place Youth Centre. Workshops were held to plan the mural and then paint it.
The project involved artistic skill development and facilitation of discussion of issues relevant to the themes of the project, including young people's perceptions of harmony and youth culture.

Poetry Slam Workshop Hume Shire

Bravo Child and Citizen Tom, two nationally recognised performance poets, writers and hip hop artists.

About this Project?
A one day writing and performing workshop involving two performance poets and artists:Bravo Child and Citizen Tom. The day culminated in a 'poetry slam' whereby all participants presented their final pieces in the afternoon and were judged by their peers.32 young people participated in this workshop.

vocal skills including projection, tone and intonation

Purple Disc

Retro Youth Cafe

About this Project?
The Retro Youth Cafe has been proactive in supporting young performers in the community by providing weekly live gigs providing an opportunity for young performers and bands to further develop their skills and confidence in performing in front of an audience of their peers.

This project also provides an opportunity for the Youth Management Committee to plan, implement and evaluate age appropriate projects for the local area.
As a result getting this funding, the Youth Management Committee have gone on to apply for further grants to run projects for the local youth.

Video filmmaker engaged to run filmmaking workshops and to assist with the filming of two Friday night gigs. The first was an acoustic night and then a performance by two local bands was recorded and a Music DVD produced.
200 copies of the DVD were produced and distributed free.

The launch of the DVD saw up to 70 participants enjoy the viewing of the DVD.

Wild Video Clip

About this Project?
Songwriting workshop was held with Akash and Phil Heuzenroeder, with a group of youth with intellectual disabilities who make up the Wild Things band and the Wild choir.
Following development of the song Believe it or Not a CD/DVD film clip was developed and distributed to the participants. The film clip captured visions that reflect the unity and 'family' experience that the band members have with one another-a sense of fun, freedom and self determination.
The result is a high energy montage of images that reflect the words and feel of the song.
