About this project
Guest director Robin Davidson worked with a community cast of 24 to devise this original play 'The Atomic Cheese Conspiracy' in the traditional style of Commedia dell'Arte. There was extensive use of masks, costume, humour and improvisation in four performances from 12 - 15 September 2007.
Inspiration
Commedia dell'Arte. Commedia comes from Italy in the 1500s and uses masks, physical skills, verbal wit, music and improvisation to tell stories that expose human greed, stupidity and hypocrisy. Today it is used to tell stories universal or contemporary, based on the timeless characters of the Commedia: the servants Arlecchino (or Harlequin) and Columbina, the garrulous Doctor, the miserly Pantalone (or Pantaloon) the cowardly Captain and the young lovers.
